"CRIMINALIZING FALSE IDENTITIES: THE END OF ONLINE ANONYMITY?"
In this article, the author addresses the horrific 2006 story of Megan Meier, the young 13 year old teenager who committed suicide when a friend of hers on MySpace cyber bullied her. The question is, who is the cyber bully that could've caused such a disruption in Megan and the entire country who witnessed the story? It was Lori Drew, the 50 year old mother of one of Megan's school friends who had a rocky friendship with the young teen. But how did it happen? Megan thought she was talking to a new friend she met on MySpace, but it was actually Lori. So why did Lori create a fake account just to harass Megan? She just wanted to find out what Megan was saying behind her daughter's back. As Lori's scheme to find out what Megan was saying behind her daughter's back escalated into tense situations, Lori humiliated Megan all over MySpace in front of her school friends, which only lead Megan into taking her own life. As the police investigated the case, they found Lori Drew "guilty of three misdemeanor charges, each punishable by up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine, of accessing computers without authorization." So how long will it for us to realize that more children are going to take their own lives away due to cyber bullying with the cost of false cyber identity?

"Facebook: There are over 83 million fake accounts on our site"
So let's narrow our perspective on internet abuse of fake profiles and pull our attention towards one famous social networking site: Facebook. Now according to Facebook, in 2012, they believed that "there are [were] more than 83 million fake accounts on its social network. Some 8.7% of the site's 955 million users..." Just on one website, more than half of their users were fake. Looks like false cyber identity was a lot more popular than we thought.

"That Facebook friend might be 10 years old, and other troubling news"
To shine a light on our point, let's see how many kids are actually being bullied by those fake profiles on Facebook we mentioned earlier. According to Consumer Reports, about "one million children were harassed, threatened, or subjected to other forms of cyber bullying on the site in the past year [2010]."

"Cyberbullying Statistics"
Ok, so we get how this is effecting a lot of kids. But the real question is, how often do we see this everyday? And sometimes don't do anything about it? In a Pew Research Internet Center study, about 55% of us, children, see this everyday. Do you see why false cyber identity used for cyber bullying is such a major issue?
