Great news: In 2011, it's been a misdemeanor to fake your identity online in the state of California. According to this article, online impersonation in California "makes it a crime to falsely and "credibly" impersonate someone in either a private or official capacity. The action must be for the purpose of harming, intimidating, threatening, or defrauding the person..." So far, this law has really helped with the troubling incidents of false cyber identity, but we still need more awareness on the issue to limit and prevent any further harm caused by this.
